Stevens Ends the Season in the Westchester Invitational

02.03.25

This past Sunday, 2/2/2025, the Stevens Bowling Team competed in the Westchester Invitational. This competition had a unique format: it was a doubles tournament. Players in the team were paired with each other and had their scores combined for ranking. This tournament consisted of 6 normal games, 3 of which are counted for doubles, the other 3 being individual scoring; and one set of 5 baker games. The oil pattern was a modified house shot and was not announced to us before the tournament, meaning that we would need to adapt on the fly to score good games. For this event, we brought 3 teams, Men's Varsity, Men's JV 1, and Men's JV 2.
Varsity did very well with a strike percentage of 51.2% and a spare percentage of 79.4%. They had stellar high games of 246 by Andrew Branco, 233 by both Evan Chin and CJ Folgore, 218 by Jordan Ela, and 215 by Victoria Aldridge in the doubles/individual games. In the bakers section, varsity had high games of 256 and 247. Their great performance placed them 2nd in the varsity division.
JV 1 exceeded expectations having a strike percentage of 53.2% and a spare percentage of 75.1%. They had amazing high games of 250 by Andy Hong, 247 by Chris Almuete,236 by Colin Smith, 234 by Alexander Kozak, and 225 by Matthew Calabrese. During their baker games, JV 1 had high games of 233 and 224. Because of their great performance, JV 1 placed 1st in the JV division. Additionally, Andy Hong and Chris Almuete were ranked 1st in the doubles division, and Andy Hong placed 2nd in total pinfall.
JV 2 also performed well having a strike percentage of 39.1% and a spare percentage of 58%. They had great high games of 239 by Joel Simon, 227 by Koen Santos, 222 by Christopher Kang, 209 by Alex Wu, and 208 by Max Oro-Hahn. During their baker games, JV 2 had a high game of 188. With their strong efforts, JV 2 placed 2nd.
We all really enjoyed competing in this tournament. However, all good things must come to an end. This was unfortunately the last tournament for our esteemed seniors and grad students: Andy Hong, Max Oro-Hahn, Joel Simon, and Breanna Tolocka. We will miss them dearly. However, we will keep our heads held high as we wish them well in their future endeavors and look forward to our next season.
