Ducks on a roll at Stony Brook Fall Open, September 20
Stevens Boat 1 finishes third! A beautiful early Fall day welcomed teams to Port Jefferson. Full sun and an easterly breeze that started out around 10-15 knots and gradually decreased to about 4-5 knots as the day progressed. Due to the wind direction and the fact that the mooring field was still crowded with boats, racing took place in the outer harbor. While this gave us clear space, we still had quite shifty conditions as the breeze came down from the hills. It was also a bit of a trek to do rotations. Despite that, we were able to complete 8 races in each division. We decided to push a little later and compete the regatta in one day. Everyone hit the docks around 6pm, after a enthusiastic paddle back. Stevens sailors used to the shifty winds of the Hudson took their chances where they could.
