Stevens Ducks Take on the Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta, February 13-15
The Stevens sailing team made their debut at the SCOR for the first event of the spring season. Luckily, the team got to escape the cold Hoboken February for a mild weekend in Charleston SC. With Friday to practice, the team got used to the new boat, and shook off the winter rust. Stevens competed in the J22 one design class, facing fierce currents and tides on both days of sailing. Saturday held 4 tight races in a steady 6-10 knot breeze with half the day riding an ebb and the other half fighting a flood. Sunday afternoon called for thunderstorms, so race committee sent the fleet on a distance race in solid 10-15 knots of breeze on a strong ebb tide. Stevens ended the regatta tied for 6th of 9, a good finish considering the competition. The ducks now shift their focus to the upcoming dinghy season.
