04.14.25

On Saturday the Stevens Lifting Team sent 14 lifters to compete in the 2025 JDI Barbell Uptown Open at the JDI Barbell gym in Harlem, New York! This was the team's first experience competing in a meet ran by Powerlifting America. The team left campus at 6:45 am and weighed in at 8:00 am, then the lifts began at 10:00 am. This meet was very competitive, with many talented lifters competing for first place, however, our members had some amazing performances that placed them high in their respective divisions! Starting with the women's side in the raw junior division, in the 57kg weight class, Kaila McNamara placed 2nd with a 200kg total, and Tianna Spitz secured 1st totaling 230kg! In the women's 84kg+ division, Isabella Hamm placed 1st with a 315kg total! Onto the men's side in the raw junior division, in the 53kg weight class Jason Rizzo secured 1st place with a 255kg total! In the 66kg weight class, Jack Messina placed 2nd, and Chris Longo placed 1st with 257.5 and 277.5kg! In the 74kg weight class, Simon Garcia placed 5th with a 292.5kg total, Logan Scheffler placed 4th with a 322.5kg total, Jason Sinicin placed 3rd with a 447.5kg total, and George Redfern claimed 1st with a 472.5kg total! Moving onto the 93kg weight class, Edward Lockie placed 5th with a 480kg total, and Colby Foster placed 4th with a 502.5kg total! Lastly on the men's side, in the 105kg weight class, Tyler Focht and Alex Lin placed 5th and 4th respectively, each with 485kg totals! This was the first meet experience for a good amount of our members who competed, and it was a fantastic environment for everyone to lift in! The crowd was packed and loud, and the meet itself was run very well. Everyone had a great time and hit some big new personal records, and we are looking forward to competing in more Powerlifting America meets at some point in the future!
