Lifting Team travels to Philadelphia to Compete in Whit Wiz Classic

12.03.24

On Saturday, November 23rd the Stevens Lifting Team took on the 2024 USA Powerlifting Whit Wiz Classic in Philadelphia! We sent nine lifters to compete in this meet, all hoping to total high enough to qualify for the USAPL collegiate nationals in the spring. Our women's division lifters put up some very impressive totals with Chloe Brenna, a great lifter who went to collegiate nationals last semester putting up a 285 kg total in the women's 56 kg division, and Chris Longo with a 277.5 kg total in the 60 kg division. Unfortunately, Jaden Smith, who we projected to qualify for nationals at this meet, was unable to get a squat on the board, however she bounced back with an awesome bench and deadlift, with them being 77.5 kg and 125 kg respectively in the 75 kg division, and we know she will bounce back and qualify for nationals in a meet next semester! Chris and Chloe ended up placing on the podium at the end of the meet, with Chris at 3rd and Chloe at 2nd! Our men's side of things was just as impressive, with everyone scoring high totals and hitting some big personal records! Ty Saito had a 457.5 kg total in the men's 67.5 kg division, Cian Gahan had a 542.5 kg in the 82.5 kg division, and Brandon Lau had a 600 kg total and Ray Murphy had a 610kg total in the 110kg division. This meet we had two lifters qualify for nationals in the Spring from our men's side, being Max Harari who had a 340 kg total in the men's 56 kg division, and Phil Peluso, who placed 1st in the meet on the men's side and put up a 640kg total in the men's 90 kg division! With this meet over, the Stevens Lifting Team now has three lifters qualified for nationals in the Spring, and even more will follow next semester!
