Lifting Information

About:

The Stevens Lifting Team is a club sport team that competes in powerlifting meets across the tri-state area. Members generally compete in one meet per semester after training for it for several weeks leading up to the competition.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is powerlifting?
Powerlifting is a strength sport consisting of the squat, bench press, and deadlift. At a meet, each lifter is given 3 attempts to complete their best squat, bench press and deadlift, and the combined weight of their best successful attempt in each lift makes up their total. The person with the best total in each weight class wins that weight class.

Do I need any experience lifting weights to join?
No! Our lifters range in experience from national level competitors to complete novices. Our coaches will teach you everything you need to know to get started and continue to improve throughout the semester and your entire lifting career. It's not about where you start, it's about how much you can learn and improve!

When/where do we train?
We have practices 3-4 days a week in the Varsity Weight Room from around 8:30-10:45pm. Practices will be on the same days at the same times every week, these days and times will be determined at the beginning of the semester.

What is a typical practice like?
Practices are planned by our coach. Training sessions begin with remarks from our coach, followed by everyone stretching together, and then breaking off into small groups to perform the lifts laid out in the practice plan.

How much are dues?
Around $180. This can fluctuate based on how many members join the team each semester and what events we plan to attend.

What do dues fund?
Travel to meets, pay for our coaches, and covering a portion of sign up fees for competitions, as well as other fees associated with competing.
