On Saturday, December 7th, Stevens Women's Club Volleyball traveled to Villanova University for a challenging tournament day. The Ducks had the privilege of bringing 10 players to compete against strong regional competition.
Stevens first faced Bloomsburg in their opening match. The Ducks fought hard but fell in two sets (18-25, 20-25). Outside Aditi Patel had 4 kills and 2 digs. Middle Ashley Junker had 3 kills and 1 block. DS Abby Mautone had 3 digs. Despite the loss, the team showed flashes of strong chemistry that would carry into their next matches.
Next, Stevens took on TCNJ in what proved to be their closest match of the day. The Ducks lost a hard-fought first set 22-25 after staying competitive throughout. They then fell in the second set 19-25. Opposite Evnika Myhovych had 5 kills and 2 blocks. Setter Savanna Fiscus had 7 assists and 1 ace. Outside Sophia Caltabiano had 3 kills and 2 digs. Middle Sam Bryan had 2 kills and 3 blocks. The team's energy and communication continued to improve throughout the day.
In their final match, Stevens faced West Chester and lost in two sets (16-25, 21-25). DS Palak Shah had 4 digs and 1 ace. DS Luisa Tinoco had 3 digs. DS Emily Liu contributed 2 digs and solid passing throughout the match. The Ducks showed determination and fought until the final point despite not advancing to the playoffs.
Though Stevens did not make the playoff bracket, the team demonstrated growth and resilience throughout the tournament. The Ducks competed with heart and aggression against tough opponents and gained valuable experience that will help them in future competitions. The team looks forward to building on this experience in their upcoming matches!
