Stevens at Lafayette — Women's Soccer Game Recap

Stevens women's soccer battled through a competitive 90 minutes on the road Saturday afternoon, earning a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.

From the opening whistle, the Ducks played with confidence and looked to establish control through possession. Stevens moved the ball effectively through the midfield, using quick passing combinations and movement off the ball to create openings against the Lafayette defense. The Ducks also remained organized defensively, limiting the Leopards' opportunities to build through the middle of the field.

Stevens created the first dangerous opportunity of the afternoon in the opening minutes when a quick combination on the left side allowed the Ducks to break into the attacking third. A low cross into the box nearly found a Stevens forward, but the Lafayette defense recovered in time to clear the danger.

The Ducks continued to apply pressure and broke through in the 27th minute. After winning possession near midfield, Stevens quickly transitioned forward and worked the ball down the right flank. A well-timed pass into the box found a Stevens attacker, who calmly finished into the lower corner to give the Ducks a 1–0 lead.

Lafayette responded by increasing its pressure and began to find more possession in the Stevens half. The Ducks' back line remained composed, closing down passing lanes and preventing the Leopards from creating clean looks at goal.

The hosts eventually found an equalizer in the 41st minute. Lafayette won a loose ball just outside the Stevens penalty area and quickly moved forward before sending a shot toward the far post. The finish found the back of the net, bringing the match level at 1–1 heading into halftime.

Stevens came out with renewed energy after the break and immediately began to regain control of the match. The Ducks circulated the ball patiently through midfield while looking for opportunities to exploit space behind the Lafayette defense.

In the 58th minute, Stevens reclaimed the lead. A strong buildup through the center of the field opened space for a forward run into the penalty area. A perfectly weighted pass found the Stevens attacker in stride, and a composed finish past the Lafayette goalkeeper made the score 2–1.

With the lead restored, Stevens continued to defend with discipline while looking for opportunities to add an insurance goal. Lafayette pushed forward in search of another equalizer, but the Ducks' midfield pressure disrupted several promising attacking sequences.

Stevens nearly extended its advantage midway through the second half when a long-range effort forced a difficult save from the Lafayette goalkeeper. The rebound fell to a Stevens attacker, but the follow-up attempt was cleared away by the Leopards' defense.

Lafayette continued to press during the final 15 minutes and created several dangerous moments around the Stevens penalty area. The Ducks responded with strong communication and timely defensive interventions, clearing crosses and preventing Lafayette from finding a clean finishing opportunity.

The hosts generated one of their best chances in the closing minutes when a ball was played across the face of the Stevens goal, but the Ducks' defense stepped in to clear it before a Lafayette attacker could get a final touch.

Stevens remained composed through the final whistle, managing possession when possible and protecting its one-goal advantage. After a closely contested second half, the Ducks secured the 2–1 road victory.

Overall, Stevens delivered a resilient performance away from home, combining organized defending, effective possession, and timely finishing. After Lafayette answered the Ducks' opening goal late in the first half, Stevens responded immediately after halftime and found the decisive goal in the 58th minute.
