Stevens at Hofstra — Women's Soccer Game Recap

Stevens battled through a competitive 90 minutes on the road Sunday evening and earned a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Hofstra University at Hofstra's home field.

From the opening whistle, the Ducks played with confidence and composure, looking to establish possession and control the tempo against a talented Hofstra side. Stevens moved the ball efficiently through the midfield and used quick combinations on the outside to create space in the attacking third. Defensively, the Ducks stayed compact and disciplined, limiting Hofstra's opportunities and forcing the Pride to work for every chance.

Stevens created the first dangerous opportunities of the match, applying pressure and testing the Hofstra defense with several attacking sequences. The Ducks broke through in the 18th minute after a quick buildup through midfield opened space on the left side. A well-placed cross into the box found a Stevens attacker, who finished from close range to give the Ducks an early 1–0 advantage.

Hofstra responded by increasing its pressure and began to find more possession in the Stevens half. The Ducks' back line remained organized, breaking up several promising attacks and preventing Hofstra from generating clear chances in front of goal. Stevens continued to threaten on the counterattack and nearly doubled its lead midway through the half when a shot from the top of the box forced a strong save from the Hofstra goalkeeper.

The Pride eventually found an equalizer in the 34th minute. After winning possession in the midfield, Hofstra quickly moved the ball forward and worked its way into the Stevens penalty area. A low shot through traffic found the back of the net, bringing the match level at 1–1.

Both teams continued to battle for control through the remainder of the first half. Stevens created another promising opportunity just before halftime, but the Hofstra defense managed to clear the danger as the teams went into the break tied.

Stevens came out with renewed intensity in the second half and quickly began to regain control of the match. The Ducks moved the ball with greater purpose and consistently pushed into the Hofstra attacking third. Their midfield pressure also made it difficult for the Pride to maintain possession and build sustained attacks.

In the 62nd minute, Stevens reclaimed the lead. A strong passing sequence in the midfield created space for the Ducks to attack down the right flank. The resulting ball into the box found a Stevens forward, who calmly placed a low finish inside the far post to make it 2–1.

With the lead restored, Stevens continued to defend with discipline while looking for opportunities to put the game away. Hofstra pushed forward in search of another equalizer, creating several dangerous moments around the Stevens penalty area. The Ducks' defense, however, remained composed and limited the Pride to difficult chances from outside the box.

Stevens nearly added a third goal in the final 10 minutes when a quick counterattack sent the Ducks into the Hofstra box, but the resulting shot sailed just wide of the post.

Hofstra increased the pressure during the closing minutes and earned several set-piece opportunities, forcing Stevens to defend deep. The Ducks responded with strong communication and timely clearances, protecting their one-goal advantage until the final whistle.

Overall, Stevens delivered a resilient road performance, combining effective possession, organized defending, and timely finishing. After Hofstra equalized in the first half, the Ducks responded strongly after halftime and found the decisive goal in the 62nd minute. Stevens' composure under pressure allowed the Ducks to close out the 2–1 victory and return home with an important road win.
