Ducks Fall to Columbia University in Tough 10-2 Loss

01.29.25

This was the second of two match ups between Columbia and Stevens this season, with this game being a re-do of a previously canceled game due to a leaky rink roof. Despite putting up an impressive 64 shots on goal, the Ducks struggled to break through Columbia's goaltending, finding the back of the net just twice. Stevens goaltender Daniel Lynes faced heavy pressure throughout the game as Columbia capitalized on many of its scoring opportunities. The Ducks started the game with high intensity, but Columbia struck first at 18:43 in the first. An early penalty put the Ducks on the penalty kill, and Columbia's Brandon Avezov netted his first of the night on the power play. Another goal by Avezov at 17:15 put the Ducks down 2-0 heading into the second period. The Ducks fought back when David Canales put Stevens on the board at 9:04 in the second period, finishing off an assist from Dylan Faulhaber. However, Columbia continued to apply offensive pressure, adding three more goals in the second period. Frustrations boiled over for both teams, leading to multiple penalties, including two ejections. The third period saw the Ducks attempt to slow down the Columbia offense but with very little luck. Hayden Fitzpatrick scored late in the third period off an assist by John Iglar and Stevens drops this match up to Columbia 10-2.
