Stevens Ultimate had all their ducks in a row in Metro NY DIII Sectionals Win

04.14.26

This past Saturday, the ducks traveled south to Trenton, to face off against section rivals TCNJ in a best-of-three matchup. After three straight years of bitter defeat, this year, it was going to be different

After defeating TCNJ in a stellar comeback in the fall semester, the ducks entered this matchup knowing that it was possible to beat this talented TCNJ squad. After a long week of planning and preparation, it was time to put their skills to the test.

In the first game, Stevens opened strong, with a 3-0 lead, that soon resolved to an 8-6 lead at halftime. But a strong TCNJ rally, and multiple breaks, lead to a 12-10 TCNJ win.

Going down early, the Ducks captain Will Hines rallied his teammates, reminding them of all the hard work they've put in this semester, and that it has all culminated to this one moment. With a few adjustments to the lineup, and a switch to zone defense, the Ducks entered game 2 with a strengthened resolve.

In game two, Stevens and TCNJ traded back and forth with multiple holds by each squad. However, at 5-4, the Ducks D-Line decided to take over the game, with three straight breaks (and a terrific performance by Peter Servedio at deep-deep) to send the game to halftime with an 8-4 Ducks lead. Then, coming out of half time, D-Line CONTINUED their dominance, with two more back-to-back breaks, resulting in a 10-4 lead. Then, through efforts of Caeleb Chendorain (the Ducks top goal scorer of the day) the O-Line was able to bare the rest of the load, resolving a 10-4 lead into a 13-8 Stevens win.

Entering the third game, the Ducks held all the momentum, and once again, were rallied by a heartwarming story told by Seniors Aidan Ouckama and Oscar Schlimer, about their dear alumni Matthew Hullstrung.

In game 3, the Ducks once again put on a display of dominance, both on the O and D lines, heading into halftime again with an 8-4 lead. Following the half, the Ducks kept pushing, until no more bubbles surfaced, quickly reaching a 15-7 win to seal the sectional win for Stevens, when Senior Captain Will Hines scored the walk-off point to put the cherry on top of an incredible spring semester.

Ultimately, this 3-game series was a testament to all the hard work and effort our Ducks have put in these past two semesters. On April 25th - 26th, the Ducks will be heading north, to Batavia, New York, to play against the best-of-the-best at regionals.

To that, we say GOOD LUCK DUCKS, and congratulations

on a terrific and historic win.
