Stevens Falls to TCNJ in Overtime Thriller, 2-1
Stevens battled TCNJ in a tightly contested ACHA Division 3 matchup on October 4, with the game ultimately requiring overtime to determine a winner. After 60 minutes of back-and-forth hockey, TCNJ scored the decisive goal in overtime to earn a 2-1 victory. Both teams finished the game with 39 shots on goal, highlighting just how evenly matched the contest was throughout.
Stevens came out strong in the opening period and quickly took advantage of a power-play opportunity. At 2:33 of the first period, Nick Seriano (#4) found the back of the net to give Stevens an early 1-0 lead. Max Tucker (#98) was credited with the assist on the goal. Stevens' early offensive pressure, combined with a strong defensive effort, allowed the Ducks to carry their one-goal advantage into the later stages of the game.
TCNJ continued to apply pressure as the game progressed, but Stevens goaltender Jock Cozine (#1) kept the Lions off the scoreboard. Cozine turned aside numerous scoring opportunities and helped Stevens maintain its narrow lead.
TCNJ finally broke through in the third period, when Brayden Heister (#44) scored at 7:52 to bring the game level at 1-1. Heister's goal was assisted by Sam Kaplan (#24) and Reggie Abbamonte (#4). With neither team able to find another goal during regulation, the game headed to overtime.
The two teams continued their evenly matched battle in the extra period, but TCNJ eventually found the game-winning goal to complete the comeback and secure the 2-1 overtime victory.
Both goaltenders played a major role in keeping the game close. TCNJ's Matthew Shrader (#32) made 38 saves on 39 shots, while Cozine stopped 37 of TCNJ's 39 shots in a strong performance for Stevens.
Special teams also played an important role in the matchup. Stevens finished 1-for-3 on the power play and recorded 16 penalty minutes across eight minor infractions, while TCNJ went 1-for-6 with the man advantage and accumulated six penalty minutes on three minor penalties.
Despite the overtime loss, Stevens showed strong competitiveness throughout the game, matching TCNJ shot-for-shot and holding a lead for much of the contest. The Ducks' effort in net and on special teams kept them within striking distance until the final moments, but TCNJ ultimately secured the overtime win.
