Climing Team Competes at Collegiate Nationals!

05.16.25

May 2-5th : National Championships Bouldering, Top Rope, and Speed Competition
The ultimate competition of the spring season, the national championships featured three events: speed, bouldering and top rope spanned over four days. The first two days held qualification competitions whereby only the top 20 competitors of each category would proceed to the finals which took place on the last two days. Each event was split into four categories: men's intermediate and men's advanced as well as women's intermediate and women's advanced. Judges were present to score all climbs for both events, the results of which were uploaded to the USA Climbing website. The ranking of each competitor is determined by first how much of the climb was completed, then by the number of attempts. The Stevens team was represented by two climbers in the men's intermediate category for both top rope and bouldering. The bouldering qualification event consisted of 6 climbs per category in a rotation redpoint format. Climbers would complete 3 climbs in 24 minutes with 4 minutes of rest and observation followed by 4 minutes to complete the route. For each route a climber could score either a low zone, a zone or a top. Unfortunately neither climber representing Stevens was able to advance to the finals for the bouldering category. The top rope event consists of 2 climbs per category in a flash format. Each competitor was given only one attempt for each route. The score is determined by the highest hold which a climber was able to demonstrate control on. Unfortunately neither climber representing Stevens was able to advance to the finals for the top rope category.
